CrossFit 5885 is an inclusive community made up of people of all ages, abilities and walks of life who have decided to live life to its fullest.  

We show up and do constantly varied and functional movement.  As movement mechanics and technique improve, we perform at relatively high intensity.  That means you'll do things outside of your comfort zone but with the coaching, support and encouragement required to accomplish more than you ever thought was possible.  

CrossFit 5885 offers programming that allows everyone from beginners to highly conditioned and elite athletes the opportunity to exercise together and perform the same “work.”  By scaling workouts back or up appropriately to accommodate each individual’s athletic ability, we can help you accomplish your health, wellness and fitness goals.

Meet the 5885 Coaches

  • I’m from Isle, Minnesota, originally, and I started my fitness pursuits in elementary school...which was a long time ago in case you're wondering...I was a wrestler at Moorhead State University, and I played soccer and rugby—but my fitness interests range from Muay Thai, mountain bike/road/cyclocross racing, Ironman Triathlon, motocross, enduro…you name it, I love it.

    I found the CrossFit.com main site back around 2000 or so, and started using some of it with fitness clients. I loved the methodology, and it kept coming back to me until I finally decided it was time to open a CF gym. We opened CrossFit 5885 in December of 2012, so this year is our DECADE anniversary!

    In my 20+ years of coaching and training, I believe CrossFit it is the best all around method for fitness I have found. It can be adapted to anyone at any level, and the community and family that is created in the process make it second to none.

    I am so fortunate that God gave me the ability and opportunity to use this platform to help people in oh so many ways, and gave me a team of people better than I could ever have asked for. To waste that gift would be a sin.

    I love coaching our clients, and I find that I don't have any one singular focus, but instead I focus on each client. Every athlete needs something different. We find what needs fixing and we fix it.

    Outside of the gym, I am lucky to spend time with my beautiful wife, 5885’s own Alana Fritz, and my stepson Kage! I’m glad to be able to support both of them in their own athletic pursuits so it’s a family love.

  • With over 15 years of experience, I am passionate about helping people on their journey to better health and physical fitness. I have worked with individuals of all abilities, from Olympic athletes to those focused on weight loss and rehabilitation after joint replacements. Regardless of age or fitness level, I believe in using CrossFit as the foundation for achieving personal goals. Join me on this transformative fitness journey and let's reach new heights together.

  • I am originally from Brisbane, Australia but now I live in Lakeville, Minnesota. I get a taste of home every day thanks to my gym nickname though.

    As a kid in Australia, I played in rugby league and swimming. As an adult, I love trail running, surfing and paddleboarding when I can. I found CrossFit in Australia with a trainer back in 2006—so I’ve been doing this for a long time.

    I love CrossFit because every workout is different, and you're constantly working on your strengths and weaknesses. Working out with a group of friends at 5885 makes the hard workouts that much better.

    I love to coach because I really enjoy seeing people reach their full potential and pushing themselves to a level they thought they could never achieve. I like to keep it fun and relaxed while challenging athletes at the same time. I enjoy helping people break down the movement into parts to give them a better understanding of the correct form.

    The best experiences I have had since starting CrossFit have been Memorial Day Murph, team competitions, Ragnar Relays and going to the CrossFit games. I also still spend a lot of time around a swimming pool, and someday I would like to eventually be a part of a team that runs a fitness/recreation center offering CrossFit, swimming, rock climbing and other fitness-based activities.

    Outside of the gym, I spend time with my wife Erin and my dog Bailey. My favorite food is steak with sweet potato and grilled vegetables…I love dolphins and kangaroos, and I love traveling and surfing. There are lots of other fun things about me, you’ll just have to join the gym to find out all of them!

  • My name is James, but I go by Jimmy at the gym! I have been doing CrossFit for about 4 years, and I have been a coach for about two years. I grew up in Rosemount, and now live there with my wife and daughter.

    I started CrossFit to better myself and change up my workout routine. I got bored doing the standard weightlifting routine, and felt like I was getting nowhere doing it. CrossFit has improved my energy levels, forced me to eat better, and most importantly given me the opportunity to meet some of the best people around!!

    I started coaching because I enjoy helping others, and once I learned I was pretty good at CrossFit I wanted to help others do the same. There is a lot of false information out there where people claim CrossFit causes more injuries than other forms of working out. With the right coaches this is simply not true. At CrossFit 5885 our number 1 priority is your health and safety and that starts with making sure you are doing everything right.

    I can’t point to a specific workout that is my favorite because the variety in CrossFit is one of its best traits! Some of my favorite movements are Burpees, Squat Cleans, Box Jumps, Muscle Ups, and Wall Walks.

    Before I started CrossFit and gave it a chance I had a negative view of it. I also thought I wouldn’t be successful. If you do happen to be reading this before joining us for a trial run, and you also have a negative view of CrossFit, I get it. I was where you are, but I’ll just say I’d be very surprised if you didn’t change your mind after giving us a chance to teach you. It was the best decision I have made for my health and wellness, and I hope you make that decision too!
